HERMÈS EVELYNE
In 1978, then chief of the riding unit Évelyne Bertrand designed with her panel a new bag that would be a suitable, handy way to carry equipment like brushes, combs, and picks. She ultimately landed upon a blueprint for a cross-body bag that has one detachable, non-flexible shoulder strap with a plain leather body with a little belt closing that locks to protect its stuff. The crucial characteristic of this new bag was an aeration feature than artistic adornment, the “H” formed porous design on one surface. These holes let air pass with the equestrian gears, permitting ventilation and breathability. At that time, the Évelyne was made to be carried with the porous side facing the person but ever since then, it has been overturned due to the course of this bag’s journey at Hermès from stable gears to a luxury symbol.
When it was initially launched, the Évelyne bag was firmly for equestrian division and was not visualized as a daily bag. This is where the Évelyne bag stayed mostly overlooked until the start to mid-2000s when the bag was strangely moved to the leather goods division. It was here that the Évelyne bang started. The bag commenced grasping, possibly due to its simple design and lesser price. Many perceived the bag as an entry bag to luxury, a chance to own a bit of the luxury heritage. The blend of this price and resourceful design provided much business to the Évelyne bag worldwide, and it is now witnessed as yet one more exceptional keystone of Hermes.
Generation Breakdown
Since its launch, there have been four editions of the Evelyne:
- Evelyne I: This edition had one non-adaptable shoulder strap with no exterior slip pocket.
- Evelyne II: This ozone had one non-adaptable shoulder strap and one exterior slip pocket of negligible size.
- Evelyne III: The bag has one adaptable shoulder strap and one full external slip pocket.
- Evelyne Sellier: The Sellier is slimmer and more rigid than the conventional Evelyne. Instead of the H porous design, the Sellier has a pressed, diamond-shaped H sign. The closing flap of this bag is also a little different, with more parallel lines and a stiffer hold, and the seams are less marked. There is no outside pocket.
The I, II, and III cater to the generations, and we are presently on the 3rd one as well as the Sellier, which is a new addition to the range.
Sizes: The Hermès Evelyne bag is available in four sizes — TPM, PM, GM and TGM that directs for Très Petit Modèle, Petit Modèle, Grand Modèle and Très Grand Modèle. The bag’s classic H will constantly have 63 pores: 40 around the oval, 9 for every arm of the H and 5 across the H’s center.
